Powerful Disc Burning

One thing that we “PowerPC” can do and the new generation can not is burning CD/DVD.  So unless you want to spend $89 for an Apple USB SuperDrive you better keep your good old PowerPC somewhere in the house, and by the way if you don’t have any G4/G5 machine you can get one for way less than that.  By the way did you guys notice the G3 machines are getting expensive at the market?

Like we are always searching for FREE material this couldn’t be different.

* Disco (FREE) – PowerPC Friendly – 10.3 Panther / 10.4 Tiger / 10.5 Leopard. Easy to use in 3 steps: Drag, Drop and Disco.  Very Powerful disc burning.  DOWNLOAD HERE

AvidemuX – Movie Editor (Free)

I wish I had more time to answer all the e-mails I get from my readers and to be able to do some research to help everybody find applications.  Unfortunately during the summer it’s difficult to find the time to spend hours in front of my computer.  Slowly as summer progresses into fall, you’ll see more from MacPowerPC!

A long time ago, a few people asked me about some applications to edit movies.  Obviously, my first answer is iMovie, I don’t do movie editing and if so it’s very basic!  In my travels, I’ve  come across a great program called Avidemux.

* Avidemux (2.5.3) – Free – PowerPC 10.2 (Jaguar here guys) or later.  It’s free open source and multi-platform software.  The interface might not be the best thing you have seen but the application is very straightforward. It supports video formats that iMovie does not and is very powerful for a simple cutting, filtering, and encoding. I might have to mention again that its FREE and this is what MacPowerPC is all about.

iConvertX Audio/Video PowerPC

It’s always important to have access to a good application that easily converts your video and audio.  iConvertX not only completes the conversion quickly, but anyone can figure how how to work it.  It’s as easy as drag and drop…so even your grandmother could figure out how to work it!

iConvertX 4.0.1 (Shareware $3.75) (First 5 times are free to try) http://joris-vervuurt.com/page4/page4.php  – PowerPC friendly, runs on 10.5 / 10.4 / 10.3 – Leopard / Tiger / Panther.

P.S.:  It seems Joris Vervuurt also developed iTubex, an application that allows you to download videos from Youtube.  As far as I can see, version 8.0 will work on PowerPC running 10.5, but unfortunately I didn’t find a safe source to download the application, to do my tests.  If you guys would like to share the results or links, please feel free to drop us a line to let us know how it worked for you!

List of format that will convert:

.mp4 / .flv / .3gp / .pct / .m4v / .avi / .dv / .mov / .flc / .qtl / .wav / .aiff / .au / .moov / .mp3 / .swa / .m1a / .mp2 / .mpa / .mpeg / .mpg / .m1s / .mpm / .divx / .mkv / .gvi / .vp6 / .vfw

Reggie Asworth’s Applications (AppDelete/VidConvert)

This post is supposed to be just about AppDelete, but when browsing the web, I noted that the developer also has another conversion app that works on the PowerPC so this became a double post!

AppDelete is shareware but it definitely does the job! If you are looking for a very easy to use “drag and drop” uninstaller that also allows you to browse your application, screensaver, widgets, as you uninstall, then I think this is a great option for you.  It properly uninstalls the applications without leaving any files behind. (Trial version will give you 5 uses)

AppDelete 3.2.8 ($7.99) PowerPC – 10.5 Leopard – http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

AppDelete 2.2.4 ($5.00) PowerPC – 10.3/10.4 Panther/Tiger – http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

VidConvert also follows the same layout, it’s very easy to use and the best feature is the “drag and drop”.  It will convert any type of video into one of the many popular formats of today. (Supported output – iPhone, iPad, iPod, Retina, Apple TV, QuickTime, .mp4, .avi, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DVD (.vob), Windows Media, Flash, Matroska (.mkv), Theora (.ogg), .m4a, .mp3, .aiff, .wav, .wma, .ac3) (Trial version will convert only 3 minutes sample videos.

Fancy ScreenSaver – PowerPC

I think it’s high time to “pimp out” our PowerPCs a little bit!  In my opinion the G3/G4/G5 are one of the best designs Apple ever launched.  They were designed so “out of the box” that even today they still look as modern as they day they were launched.  I honestly love the iMac G4…some of my friends are very impressed with iMac G4 because it is a very minimalist machine…and we are talking about  a design that is now over 10 years old!  Anyways, I better stop talking about the G4 otherwise I won’t get to the point.  I’ve been looking for this ScreenSaver for a long time now…you can find it in any iPad/tablet.  In fact, I think some of the tablet users just use their tablets as clocks, as far as I see in some fabulous online photos.  But if you have an office with a spare PowerPC machine hanging around, this will give you a cool reason to turn it ON and let it work for you again!

Fliqlo – 1.3.3 – (Free) – PowerPC – http://9031.com/goodies/

Briblo – 1.0.3 – (Free) – PowerPC – http://9031.com/goodies/  Also a Screen Saver but this is so funny, it’s a movable brick block that looks like Lego or Tetris.  This would be considered a “Smart Screen Saver” because you can play with it by using the direction arrows on your keyboard.  It’s very addictive, I even set up my Screen Saver to start on 3 minutes, when I’d usually opt for it to come on after 15 minutes – just so I can occasionally play with the bricks!

P.S.:  Thanks Peter for sharing on comments these ScreenSavers are a show stoppers:

HimmelBar (Menu Shortcut) for Mac PowerPC

If you are looking for a nice menu bar shortcut for your applications or utilities, I think your search is about to end!  Let me introduce to you HimmelBar.

*HimmelBar 3.0 (accepting donations) http://softbend.free.fr/himmelbar/download.html – 10.4 / 10.5 – PowerPC friendly.  It’s a very small icon on menu bar that gives you many options to easily access your folders, applications, etc.  You can also customize the folders and applications to better suit your needs.  After you start using it, you will likely question yourself why Apple didn’t think about this before because it’s a great feature and makes browsing your own computer much easier!  One of the features that I like is that you have the choice on what size your icons are displayed (big, small or not at all!)  Make sure you check the options Launch at login and go to Preferences as soon as you install, to do the setup the way you prefer.

Now comes good news for our feline relatives:

Jaguar users – 1.4.4

Panther users – 2.4.3

Tiger & Leopard – 3.0

Just one more point, this would be really great for Jaguar, Panther and Tiger because the folder dock application does not work the same way that it does on Leopard: you have to click and keeping holding until the list shows up and it’s not quite a shortcut…

Widgets for Mac PowerPC (ClassiCalculator / iBook)

Bring life to your dashboard with one of these widgets!  They are not “the big deal” but they’re cool little apps that will help keep your machine in the “now”;

*ClassiCalculator – PowerPC – ClassiCalculator it’s a widget that reminds us how applications looked a few years ago.  You can download here: http://cl.ly/2K3b2M15462U

*iBooks – PowerPC – This widget only allows you to access the iBook Store from your Dashboard.  I was wondering if we could actually read our iBooks from the Dashboard, which would be very helpful and cool.  Anyways you can download it here: http://cl.ly/1y3v3b3L280E

MultiTunes Multiples iTunes Library for Mac PowerPC

Browsing the web this morning, I came across a great application that it gives extra features to iTunes.  MultiTunes is a plug-in that allows you to have multiples iTunes libraries.  If you are an iTunes user, you know what I mean and you probably wonder how to have 2 iTunes installed in the same computer… Anyways if you feel like trying this app it’s shareware and works with iTunes 6 or later.

MultiTunes 1.6 (ShareWare – 15.99) 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard)  PowerPC – http://porkrind.org/multitunes/

Also there is a cheaper version that helps you to create multiple iTunes libraries and manage them.  This app supports iTunes 4 of later

*Libra 2.1.9 (ShareWare – 10.00) 10.2 (Jaguar), 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard)  PowerPC – http://www.sillybit.com/libra/  It’s very rare to see apps available for Jaguar.  Anyone that has partitions with Jaguar and Panther sitting on the side, it’s time to boot the feline one more time.

We from Mac PowerPC are always looking for the cheapest ways to do things and we want to let you know that there is one way to have multiple iTunes libraries in the same computer, but it won’t be as practical as Mac users like things to be.  The only thing you have to do is “hold Option key” and click on iTunes icon, a window will pop up asking if you want to create a new Library or choose one, that’s it!  It’s simple but you will have to get used to pressing the Option key each time you want to change your iTunes library.

Torrent Clients for Mac PowerPC

At one time we mentioned some options for Torrent clients for PowerPC and I think a lot of people use torrents to download “things” because it’s one of the most accessible posts on our blog and you can check it out here: https://macpowerpc.com/2011/06/01/client-bit-torrent-for-powerpc/.  In this post you will find reviews on applications like: Transmission – 2.42, Vuze – 4.7.1.2 (seems to be compatible with 10.3 Panther), Bits on Wheels, Frostwire 5.3.6 and Tomato Torrent.  But we’ve found some more options and present you with 3 more options that will make your PowerPC able to download files from the most popular web-sites like: PirateBay, IsoHunt, etc.

* Tribles 5.9.27 (Free) 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – http://www.tribler.org/trac – Is a very different BitTorrent client and will work just fine.  It’s has fast content search, wiki-style channels, video-on-demand support, no ads, etc.  This application actually makes us think about a second post of Torrent clients and I hope you guys like it.

* BitTorrent 7.3.4 (Free) 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – http://www.bittorrent.com/ – It’s another BitTorrent client that is very PowerPC friendly.  Previously, I didn’t mention this application because we were looking for options specifically for Tiger.  You can not go wrong with this very powerful application.

* uTorrent 1.6.4 (Free) 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – http://mac.utorrent.com/ – Well this application is probably one of the most popular apps for Torrent downloads and there is a reason for that fame!  uTorrent is a very powerful Torrent client and it’s light too!  It has a clean interface and features like; search for torrents or browse content directly from your software interface, download torrents and manage your files in the torrent manage.  I like that it has buttons for playing and streaming right where you can see them!

P.S.: uTorrent 1.6.5 – http://www.oldapps.com/mac/utorrent.php?app=5B8E3CF6A72E46E65F594DC38C8948EF

* Folx 2.0.1029 (Free or Pro – 19.95) 10.4 Tiger /10.5 Leopard/ PowerPC – http://mac.eltima.com/download-manager.html – This application I posted as a bonus because is a download manager that also download torrents and works with Tiger so why not?!

These latest additions are very powerful Torrent clients for the PowerPC.  I hope you guys like them and if you find some other applications that we’ve missed,  please share with us and we will review and post them here as soon as possible.  Also, if you have time please click in one of the advertisements on our page or make some donations to help to keep this blog up and running.  We run this blog for our own interests, and all donations will be very much appreciated, and help cover our costs.  We appreciate anything you can do to help!!

iPodBackUp for Mac PowerPC

iPodBackup is fully compatible with 10.3 (Panther) or later and that is more than enough reason to share this great Free application.  The name says it all!  This fantastic app  backs up your iPod and allows you to customize a list of items to be excluded by dragging and dropping. If you still have your iPod playing your favorite tunes, let’s back up.

* iPodBackup 1.5.4 (Free) PowerPC – 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5 (Panther / Tiger / Leopard).  http://cl.ly/3o0I2N011332

Multiples Dock (Dockyard) for Mac PowerPC

Let’s start with the bad news:  “this application is no longer developed or supported” referring to both PowerPC and Intel.  PowerPC users from all over are so used to it that they it doesn’t phase them anymore.  There’s an application called Dockyard which is a dock switcher that will allow you to have multiples dock and you can access all with just one click.  You can also have multiple dashboards with the docks but you can choose not to, if you don’t want them.

Having multiple docks is an excellent option for organizing our apps as you can customize 2 or 3 different docks with themes for work, personal use etc.  For sure you will find dozens of themes which will make your life easier, thanks to this great Mac OS X feature.  Ah! you can now create an empty dock so you can work with only open applications.  The best part is coming: it’s compatible with 10.3 10.4 or later.  Way to go Tiger and Panther!

Dockyard 1.0.1 (Free) PowerPC 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5 – Panther / Tiger / Leopard – http://belkadan.com/dockyard/

I think the only downside is that it would be nice if we could work with 2 docks simultaneously.  But…beggars cant be choosers!

From the same developer (Belkadan Software) you can download others apps called “menu extras” or “dockyard widgets”.  One allows you to control your dock from the menu bar and the second one lets you control your docks from the dashboard.  Cool!

MacLibre for Mac PowerPC

I’m downloading this application right now and decided to launch my favorite word processor to start writing about it.  This is a deal changer for the Mac PowerPC community and if it works how I think it will, we get our own AppStore!

Well, I installed and launched it, but unfortunately it did not work properly.  I’m stuck with this window that says “double click for selecting the package you want to install, re-install or update”.  I’m not sure what went wrong, but I certainly will try again later.  Too bad because it looks like with this application, it allows you to update and install all the free open source software.  Let me know if it worked out for you guys.  I’m currently running Leopard.

MacLibre 2.0.2 ( 10.3 Panther/ 10.4 Tiger/ 10.5 Leopard) (Free) PowerPC – http://www.maclibre.com/

Featured applications: • Audacity • Blender • Gimp • Inkscape • Adium • Colloquy • Cyberduck • Fire • Firefox • Nvu • Thunderbird • Vienna • Multimedia • HandBrake • MPlayer • VLC • AbiWord • NeoOffice • ClamXav • DesktopManager • iTerm • VirtueDesktops • X11

P.S.: Thank you “Starfighter” for sharing this fix, it works very well.

Guys check out comments from “Starfighter” if you are having the same issue.  He found out how to make it work.

EureKalc (advanced calculate) for Mac PowerPC

This app is most certainly designed for that special someome…but until now, I’ve not been able to ascertain who!  I’m not quite sure if you guys will like it or even download it.  I will be very honest with you:  I didn’t get it.  I didn’t waste my time because I know I wouldn’t use it anyways, I have no idea how to start it and I have no purpose for this app in my computer.

I was so happy when I finished school because math was somewhat entertaining and challenging, and then it slowly became a pain in the butt.  But I thought if there is someone “lost” out there looking for something like this app called EureKalc, enjoy it because is compatible with PowerPC and it seems that it does what it’s supposed to do.  It’s a very advanced scientific calculator.

EureKalc – 3.0.01 – (Free) PowerPC 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5. – http://web.me.com/nicohirtt/EureKalc/English.html (not working)

OpenMark for Mac PowerPC (test the speed of the video card)

OpenMark for Mac PowerPC (test the speed of the video card)

Before the week starts, let’s do a test with our Mac PowerPCs.  Download OpenMark 1.60 and launch the app.  Once it’s on, you go to the OpenMark menu bar and choose “Run Benchmark”.  After that, you just wait for a few minutes and this app will test the raw speed of the video card, drawing a variable number of triangles and generating a report with the machine score.  Feel free to share your score with us!   Leave your comments and scores and don’t forget to include your version of PowerPC.

Hard Times 

The blog MacPowerPC is currently off until further notice, I’m trying very hard to come back posting new info/apps/softwares compatible with PowerPC. This moment I really would appreciate a little bit donations, because my iBook G4 just died and I need to buy any Mac PowerPC to keep this project on, without a PowerPC machine I can’t do my research. If everyone understand my work here and would like to help me with $5 or $10 would be appreciate. Thank you very much for the support.

Convert / Encode / Plugin For Mac PowerPc

After we talked about players for mac powerpc users, I thought it should be interesting to add one more post to show you a few softwares that will help you in case you want to encode/convert music to any other format.  So I started looking and I found great options for our PowerPC machines running 10.4 or later.  Also I included in this post, a great and very useful plugin to QuickTime.  With this plugin you are able to play almost all movie formats.

* All2MP3 – It’s a simple software that helps you to easily covert all different formats of audio to MP3 as the name of this application says.   It’s a basic Mac thing, drag and drop…  http://www.tresrrr.com/Personal/ENGLISH.html

* Switch – It’s another simple software that helps you to convert audio files and many different formats, not limited only to MP3. It’s a very powerful app and it’s going to help for those who use 2 or more OS because is easy to convert between mac and windows.  It supports audio file formats wav, mp3, wma, mp2, m4a, ogg, avi, mid, flac, mov, amr, aac, mpga, dct, au, aif/aiff, raw, dvf, vox, cda, gsm, dss, sri, shn, dss, msv, wmv, etc.  http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

* X Lossless Decoder – It’s a great app that allows you to decode or convert lossless apple audio.  It supports many audio formats including Ogg, FLAC, Monkey’s Audio, Wavpack, TTA, Apple Lossless, TAK, Shorten, Wav, AIFF.  Download and keep these options and you never will have problems with you audio files.  http://tmkk.pv.land.to/xld/index_e.html

Please if you like subscribe to my blog or leave a comment. Thanks

Thank you André for sharing this app with us.

*Xact – I took a look online and it seems this app Xact 2.14 is Intel only, but an old version like 2.13 or older 1.63 works in a PowerPC.  At this moment I can not test, but if you can please feel free to share with us the results.

1.63 – (10.2/10.3/10.4) http://download.cnet.com/DC30-Xact-Driver/3000-2108_4-39818.html

2.13 – (10.5) http://xact.mac.findmysoft.com/
