Djay for Mac PowerPC

Who doesn’t want be DJ?

I would say that djaying is one of the most time consuming thing to do with your computer if you are into music and throw party to friends.

Sad news to get the newest Macbook Air or Macbook Pro just to djaying is very expensive, so why not look for an old cheap option like PowerBook  or iBook, most of people won’t know the different unless you are using a very cool colour iBook G3 or a PowerBook Pismo/Wallstreet that the Apple logo is upside down.

Either way you can install a old version of Djay (3.1.2) totally compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.  Of course there are some limitations when you compare the most recent 4.2.3, but the application run just fine and you will rock the party… …as long as your music rocks, of course.

Have fun guys.

Tooble Dowload Youtube Videos

Summer time is a very difficult time to blog for the MacPowerPC team because of our day jobs.  It’s our busiest time of year and admittedly it’s difficult to find the time to release quality posts.  I wanted to let everyone know that even during our hiatus, we have still been searching and saving material for later updates, on a regular basis.  Now that fall is settling in, we have time to get back on track for our weekly updates…and have we got a LOT to catch up on!

* Tooble 2.8 – (Free) – PowerPC Tiger/Leopard.  It’s an easy way to quickly download videos from YouTube, convert them and import to iTunes to watch on your iPod or AppleTV.

I’m sorry guys for the misunderstanding, the right version that is compatible with PowerPC is Tooble 2.7.9.  Download here: http://cl.ly/RSL2

I would like to thank you to Bjornels for sharing the link with us.  The version that he found also works on PowerPC – http://tooble.en.softonic.com/mac

App Store/iTunes Card $10,000 Why Not + New Blogs

I understand that a few of you won’t like the idea that the PowerPC is not allowed on Apple’s App Store but just imagine an App Store Card with a value of U$10,000. Did you start salivating? I would buy tons of music and apps for my iPhone and as long as any PowerPC user could use this card on the iTunes Store, would make me happy. I would be able to download all the new records that I want to listen to and because it was free money, I’d try out new bands I’d never heard of before! So I don’t want to get too excited, so I will stop here. The good news is that PowerPC users still have a shot at this, even without an App Store on our machines… you go to this link, fill out the form and cross your fingers: http://www.apple.com/ca/itunes/50-billion-app-countdown/entry-form/

Good luck…I understand that they are about to hit 50 billion downloads worldwide!

For use with iTunes, you can extract the artwork from the selected track’s ID3 tag and copy it to an image file in a chosen location.  It is also a fully fledged artwork manager as it can fetch album covers from all over the internet!

MacSome: Audio Recorder / iTunes Converter

One of our latest post was about tunelyrics and I thought this application would be a good choice to mention as another option for iTunes lovers.

Macsome iTunes Music Converter 1.5.6  (The right version for PowerPC is 1.3.1 and can be download here http://download.cnet.com/Macsome-iTunes-Converter/3000-18549_4-11126093.html )(Demo – $39.95) converts any M4a to MP3, and even works with DRM, by converting protected music and various audio files into unprotected MP3, etc.

http://macsome.com/itunes-converter-mac/index.html

One more application from MacSome that works very well on PowerPC is the Macsome Audio Recorder 1.1.0 (Shareware – $29.95) 10.4 / 10.5 (Tiger / Leopard). It’s a very powerful audio recorder that works with applications like iTunes, Skype or DVD Player.  It also records from microphones, etc.  It’s a very helpful application to have installed on your Mac.  http://www.macsome.com/audio-recorder-mac/index.html

TuneLyrics for Mac PowerPC

That is a cool app that will work well for anyone with a well organized iTunes library!  Get this….it fetches the lyrics to the songs you are listening to, direct from the internet, as you listen!  I love this app…So far everything is working out great!

TuneLyrics is a perfect app that fetches lyrics on the fly, so now when you were enjoying your favorite music you can review the lyrics to see if you are singing the right words!

TuneLyrics 1.1.0 (Free) PowerPC friendly 10.2 / 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5 – That’s how Mac PowerPC likes it!!! http://waterdrop.tk/

Back Up / Create New iTunes Library

iTunes Library Manager – 5.4

iTunes is an application that I use a lot.  It took me awhile to learn how to use it and I’m not sure if I use all the features to their fullest, but I do have a really well organized library/playlist/etc.  All my records have their own cover-art and most of the files have lyrics.  It was a long arduous task to build this library, because I did most of the work myself without using third party application to help me find the cover-art and lyrics.  Anyways, I keep a back-up safe on an external hard drive and to make sure that everything is protected, I use Time Machine to back up my hard drive only.

*iTunes Library Manager (5.4 – Shareware $10.00) – http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/ituneslibrarymanager.php / 10.4 / 10.5 PowerPC friendly.  Now I found this application that does an iTunes library back up and if you have a large amount of music this is very handy to have on your PowerPC machine because you won’t have to do the work all over again.  But you do have to back-up all the time you sync new music into your system, because it does not do it automatically.  Anyways, another good feature of iTunes Library Manger is that you can save the same library with a different name, you also can save the newest updated library with a new name and keep the old one “just in case you want to restore the old library”, or you can create a brand new empty library and have a different library for whichever way best fits your organization.

Requires iTunes 7 or better 🙂

MultiTunes Multiples iTunes Library for Mac PowerPC

Browsing the web this morning, I came across a great application that it gives extra features to iTunes.  MultiTunes is a plug-in that allows you to have multiples iTunes libraries.  If you are an iTunes user, you know what I mean and you probably wonder how to have 2 iTunes installed in the same computer… Anyways if you feel like trying this app it’s shareware and works with iTunes 6 or later.

MultiTunes 1.6 (ShareWare – 15.99) 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard)  PowerPC – http://porkrind.org/multitunes/

Also there is a cheaper version that helps you to create multiple iTunes libraries and manage them.  This app supports iTunes 4 of later

*Libra 2.1.9 (ShareWare – 10.00) 10.2 (Jaguar), 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard)  PowerPC – http://www.sillybit.com/libra/  It’s very rare to see apps available for Jaguar.  Anyone that has partitions with Jaguar and Panther sitting on the side, it’s time to boot the feline one more time.

We from Mac PowerPC are always looking for the cheapest ways to do things and we want to let you know that there is one way to have multiple iTunes libraries in the same computer, but it won’t be as practical as Mac users like things to be.  The only thing you have to do is “hold Option key” and click on iTunes icon, a window will pop up asking if you want to create a new Library or choose one, that’s it!  It’s simple but you will have to get used to pressing the Option key each time you want to change your iTunes library.

Twunes (Tweet your #nowlistining iTunes music) for Mac PowerPC

Sometimes I get very excited to share things that we found on the internet with my readers.  Today’s featured app is called Twunes, which was supposed to be for Intel only.  Needless to say, I like a challenge and one more I got the horrible message explaining to me that the application does not support my OS X.  So anyways, turns out that as long you have 10.5.8 you are good to tweet your favorite music using PowerPC.  Enjoy guys!

* Twunes 2.2.1 – 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – It was kind of hard to find this version so I uploaded it for you guys to download right here: http://cl.ly/0t0A1u3b190O

This application was discontinued in march/2012 for Intel.

iTunes Get Lyrical for Mac PowerPC

Alright, now that we’ve got iTunes updated (for Leopard only) we can enjoy this wonderful player just a little bit more.  I like iTunes and I use it all the time to manage and organize my music.  I learned how to work with it and how to get more from the smart library, which is simple.  Some users say that it uses a lot of memory but this is the price you have to pay…so let’s have some patience when everything slows down a bit.  I also would recommend to get this app/plugin called Get Lyrical, it’s free and it works perfectly.  A caution:  to get more from this program you’ll first need to organize all your Artists, Albums and Names of music really well!  After that, it will start looking for lyrics to your music!

The downside of this program is that sometimes it’s not 100% accurate.  Occasionally, it gets wrong lyrics but the errors are very minimum and you can always fix it very easily.  Never was it so easy to add lyrics to your iTunes library!

Get Lyrical 3.7 – (Free) – Leopard – http://shullian.com/get_lyrical.php

Now let’s attach an application that I checked today but for some reason it did not work on my Mac.  I understand that the minimum requirements for this app is PPC/Intel 10.6 and I was wondering why it asks for PPC 10.6 if 10.6 it’s not compatible with PowerPC in the first place.  So I installed an application called Cefipx and I did not have any issues with the installation.  My Mac recognized the app but when I launched the application it gave me the message“application not responding” and after that I had to “force to quit”.  So anyways, I decided to attach this name in this post because maybe someone would like to take a closer look at this app.  As far as I know, it helps to sync any device with your iTunes, share or transfer files like music, video, etc.

Update for Mac PowerPC

Apple Update for Mac PowerPC (iTunes/AirPort Utility)

Picture it:  The Orchard, 2012…what’s going on here?  I know with Sophia Petrillo it sounds more funny, but you can not blame me for trying!  Anyways, I’m just posting here to make sure all the Leopard users get the 2 updates that Apple just released.  The first  one is for AirPort Utility 5.6.1, which allows us to configure and mange the new Airport Express with simultaneous dual band 802.11n.  For iTunes 🙂 10.6.3: You can check more details here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US   It seems this update brings compatibility with the new iOS6 and also it’s available for Leopard G4/G5.

I can not believe after all the years they finally released an update for Leopard (Intel only) a few weeks ago and now 2 updates for PowerPC!   This is a victory, don’t waste your time, go to  > Software Update and have some fun!

Apple:  Thank you for being our friend!

iTunes Alarms For Mac PowerPC

iTunes Alarms For Mac PowerPC

Here’s the thing… I think most of us use cellphones as our primary alarm clocks, but think again, “wouldn’t it be nice if our alarm plays music from our iTunes library?”  Look no further, I have 2 apps that make this happen!  Sometimes it’s so frustrating when we are enjoying our slumber and suddenly a ship horn starts sounding, forcing us back into reality.  I used to long for the days where I could atleast wake up to the sounds of my favourite songs.  Now we have our chance!

* iTunes Alarm 2.1.4 FREE (runs on Tiger or later) It’s an easy way to wake up your computer/you without that terrible “cellphone noise”.  Now you will wake up with music that you choose.  Perfect for Saturday/Sundays!  This way, your computer wakes up before you do and it lets you wake up with music from Pick of the Week (Starbucks), just don’t forget to get the cards and redeem the free music.  If you’re smart and set your coffee maker’s timer, you’ll be able to wake up and feel like you’re in a coffee shop!  http://www.johnnarun.com/itunes_alarm/

* iTaf 2.2.3 FREE (runs on Tiger or later) It does the same job:  It wakes your computer up and then you (I guess).  My only words of wisdom:  be careful you’re not too comfortable, otherwise you’ll end up falling back asleep, to the sounds of your favourite music!  You might want to choose some hard rock, heavy metal or punk music to make sure you pull yourself out of bed, and not fall back asleep!   http://itaf.sourceforge.net/

Audio Player For Mac PowerPC

When we talk about players for Mac the first one that comes to mind is definitely iTunes.  iTunes is a great app but sometimes you don’t want to sync your music and are only looking for a fast and easy listen.  iTunes 10.2.2 still runs on PowerPC 10.5 or later, if you do have a PowerPC 10.4 you can use iTunes 9.2.1. For those that are still running PowerPC G3 can use 8.2.1. I have to confess that I decide to downgrade my iTunes to 8.2.1 because I had a few issues with 9.2.1 the (determining gapless playback information) was driving me crazy.

* VLC – I know many people use the VLC for movies only, but this is a powerful app, perfect to play your audio (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …). If you are minimalist with your computer, you are not going to need any other app other than this one.  http://www.videolan.org/

* Cog – Simple but plays all the popular formats of audio (Ogg Vorbis, Flac, Musepack, Mp3, Shorten, Wavpack, AAC, and Monkeys Audio). Perfect for PowerPC 10.4.  It’s a light app to have installed in your computer just in case you need it.  As your default audio software, it will meet all your basic requirements, and looks good too!  http://cogx.org/

* Vox – It’s a small yet simple app that also plays everything that you are going to need, including FLAC, MP3, AAC, Musepack, Monkey’s Audio, OGG Vorbis, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, IT, MOD, XM, Games Music and many others.  I recommend that all PowerPC users download this app, as it’s always good to have it.  http://www.voxapp.uni.cc/  Download available here: Vox 0.2.7.1 – http://cl.ly/151K2l2P1F2i

* Audion X – It’s not a popular player, but works really good with PowerPC 10.4.  It’s Easy to use and has some of advanced features ready to be discovered! It plays Audio CDs, MP3s, and streaming network audio.  Even hang with your iPod, light, simple, and powerful.  http://www.panic.com/audion/

* Taply – It’s is a simple soundfile player.  http://www.bluem.net/en/mac/taply/versions/

*SoundApp Reborn – Another simple player. http://thirdcog.eu/apps/soundapp

* Play – is an application for playing and managing audio files. Play supports FLAC, OGG VORBIS, MUSEPACK, WAVPACK MONEKEY’S AUDIO, AAC APPLE LOSSLESS, MP3 and various other audio file formats.  http://sbooth.org/Play/
