Spending All Your Money – Now Tracking All Your Money

Everybody knows that even small expenditures add up…  In my opinion, tracking your money and your expenses are fundamental to the health of your pocket.  PowerPC computers are a great tool to help you in tracking because they run some of the web’s best applications that have been specially designed to help you in your quest.  Check back to some of our previous posts here on Mac PowerPC and you will find quite few of them in our archive.  But today I wanted to share the following with you;

* Budget Workbook – 1.7.5 (Shareware) – PowerPC friendly – Panther / Tiger / Leopard – 10.3/10.4/10.5. http://www.snowmintcs.com/products/workbookmac/  It’s a simple expense tracker, easy to use with a very friendly interface that will easily help you to find where your money is going.

* Pay It Down – 1.4.1 (Shareware) – PowerPC friendly – Panther / Tiger / Leopard – 10.3/10.4/10.5. http://www.snowmintcs.com/products/payitdownmac/ . Graph your debt profile.  See when you will be out of debt.  Determine the best strategy for getting out of debt.

A Better Finder Rename

We know that Finder is a necessity for every Mac user.  But have you ever wished that you had a better finder rename feature on your Mac, that would actually save you time, and help you in your quest for organization?  I have good news for you:

http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/

* A Better Finder Rename – 8.76 (shareware) Leopard 10.5

* A Better Finder Rename – 7.9.9.3 (shareware) Tiger 10.4

* Download Version 7.5.1 for Mac OS X 10.3.

* Download Version 6.5.5 for Mac OS X 10.2.

* Download Version 5.9.6 for Mac OS 9

This app is a great option and most complete renaming solution for Finder.  It’s very easy to use, following the drag and drop method, and is a very friendly interface.  Now there are no excuses for you to start organizing your files, photos and MP3 files with their proper names.

This is an application that every Mac user should have and if you have a large number of pictures or music files, this application is a must for your own good.  It will be the best $19.99  that you ever spend on your computer!

Jers Novel Writer – PowerPC

My Facebook friend Gregory will be very happy because I finally got some time to check  out the application that he mentioned on Mac PowerPC’s Facebook Page a long time ago, which I had bookmarked but never had enough time to get to.  Here you go!

* Jers Novel Writer 1.1.12 – (Demo $30.00) – http://jerssoftwarehut.com/jers-novel-writer/download-jers-novel-writer  – PowerPC friendly Panther / Tiger / Leopard – 10.3/10.4/10.5 – It’s a simple but not restricted writing application.  I’m very impressed with the quality of this word processor, as it has everything to keeping you writing and saving your ideas without messing things up.  It has a main window like any other word processor but the coolest feature is that it has a tab running along the side that allows you see all your other saved projects!  It also has a notes tab that allows you to post all your brainstormed ideas and subjects that keep you on track as you write.  In my opinion, this is great software that totally deserves to be installed on your machine.    Attention Writers:  Now it’s time to make your Mac buddy work a little bit harder.

They’re Only Browser But I Like Them

The Next 2 posts will be about Browsers as we still have to cover some browsers that might not be the most updated, but certainly still work on some PowerPC machines.  Add the following to your list:

Demeter 1.5 – Free – PowerPC 10.4/10.5 – Tiger/Leopard –  This Browser is based on Shiira – http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/25489/demeter (Stable version 1.0.9).  On http://mac.softpedia.com says that is Jaguar supported…if there are any Jaguar users reading this, can you help us remove the doubt??  Thanks.

Radon 1.5 – Free – PowerPC 10.5 / Leopard – http://download.cnet.com/Radon-Browser/3000-2356_4-179888.html

iCab 5.0.1 – Shareware – PowerPC 10.5/Leopard – http://www.icab.de/index.html – iCab is an alternative web browser for the Apple Macintosh with numerous useful features. On the web site it says it is Intel but it does work on PowerPC.

iCab 4.9 – 10.3.9/10.4 or later – http://www.icab.de/dl.php

iCab 3.0.5 – 8.5/9.2.2 or later – http://www.icab.de/dl.php

iCab 2.9.9 – 7.5/8.1/9.2.2 – http://www.icab.de/dl.php

iCab was very good playing Youtube’s video.

Next post is about Roccat.

iConvertX Audio/Video PowerPC

It’s always important to have access to a good application that easily converts your video and audio.  iConvertX not only completes the conversion quickly, but anyone can figure how how to work it.  It’s as easy as drag and drop…so even your grandmother could figure out how to work it!

iConvertX 4.0.1 (Shareware $3.75) (First 5 times are free to try) http://joris-vervuurt.com/page4/page4.php  – PowerPC friendly, runs on 10.5 / 10.4 / 10.3 – Leopard / Tiger / Panther.

P.S.:  It seems Joris Vervuurt also developed iTubex, an application that allows you to download videos from Youtube.  As far as I can see, version 8.0 will work on PowerPC running 10.5, but unfortunately I didn’t find a safe source to download the application, to do my tests.  If you guys would like to share the results or links, please feel free to drop us a line to let us know how it worked for you!

List of format that will convert:

.mp4 / .flv / .3gp / .pct / .m4v / .avi / .dv / .mov / .flc / .qtl / .wav / .aiff / .au / .moov / .mp3 / .swa / .m1a / .mp2 / .mpa / .mpeg / .mpg / .m1s / .mpm / .divx / .mkv / .gvi / .vp6 / .vfw

Reggie Asworth’s Applications (AppDelete/VidConvert)

This post is supposed to be just about AppDelete, but when browsing the web, I noted that the developer also has another conversion app that works on the PowerPC so this became a double post!

AppDelete is shareware but it definitely does the job! If you are looking for a very easy to use “drag and drop” uninstaller that also allows you to browse your application, screensaver, widgets, as you uninstall, then I think this is a great option for you.  It properly uninstalls the applications without leaving any files behind. (Trial version will give you 5 uses)

AppDelete 3.2.8 ($7.99) PowerPC – 10.5 Leopard – http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

AppDelete 2.2.4 ($5.00) PowerPC – 10.3/10.4 Panther/Tiger – http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

VidConvert also follows the same layout, it’s very easy to use and the best feature is the “drag and drop”.  It will convert any type of video into one of the many popular formats of today. (Supported output – iPhone, iPad, iPod, Retina, Apple TV, QuickTime, .mp4, .avi, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DVD (.vob), Windows Media, Flash, Matroska (.mkv), Theora (.ogg), .m4a, .mp3, .aiff, .wav, .wma, .ac3) (Trial version will convert only 3 minutes sample videos.

Fancy ScreenSaver – PowerPC

I think it’s high time to “pimp out” our PowerPCs a little bit!  In my opinion the G3/G4/G5 are one of the best designs Apple ever launched.  They were designed so “out of the box” that even today they still look as modern as they day they were launched.  I honestly love the iMac G4…some of my friends are very impressed with iMac G4 because it is a very minimalist machine…and we are talking about  a design that is now over 10 years old!  Anyways, I better stop talking about the G4 otherwise I won’t get to the point.  I’ve been looking for this ScreenSaver for a long time now…you can find it in any iPad/tablet.  In fact, I think some of the tablet users just use their tablets as clocks, as far as I see in some fabulous online photos.  But if you have an office with a spare PowerPC machine hanging around, this will give you a cool reason to turn it ON and let it work for you again!

Fliqlo – 1.3.3 – (Free) – PowerPC – http://9031.com/goodies/

Briblo – 1.0.3 – (Free) – PowerPC – http://9031.com/goodies/  Also a Screen Saver but this is so funny, it’s a movable brick block that looks like Lego or Tetris.  This would be considered a “Smart Screen Saver” because you can play with it by using the direction arrows on your keyboard.  It’s very addictive, I even set up my Screen Saver to start on 3 minutes, when I’d usually opt for it to come on after 15 minutes – just so I can occasionally play with the bricks!

P.S.:  Thanks Peter for sharing on comments these ScreenSavers are a show stoppers:

Mac PowerPC is finally back posting more material on our blog!  After some much deserved time off (although we were checking e-mail and sharing some random material on our Facebook page + Twitter) we decided to officially start the year!  So let’s start the year right, and fully understand just what kind of machine we own.  I found an excellent app that does the job very well.

EggTimer Timer Utility / Reminder

EggTimer 3.1.5 – (Free) PowerPC 10.1 or Later.

This is a simple reminder/timer utility.  It’s fun…and let’s face it, if you’re anything like me…this is an invaluable app to have on your Mac!  With the help of this application, you’ll never be late again…you also can set reminders for a later time, set repeating reminders that will pop-up every “x” minutes, etc.

Enjoy this PowerPC friendly app.

Boot Your Mac From Another Mac With DVD Driver Via Firewire Cable

Install Leopard or Tiger Via Target Disk Mode.

Believe or not, many people are still buying PowerPC computers, some of them know what they are getting into, but some of them have no clue at all!  They just see that it’s a very cheap Mac and think they’re lucky to find it.

In fact there are some points you should consider before buying a used Mac computer and they’re not limited to just checking the cosmetic aspects or hardware specs.  Ask for the original packing and documents, because it will make the difference if one day you decide to sell it, or in the event that they become collectors items, you’ll increase their value!  Another item you should ask about are the original DVD’s or CD’s, some people just forget to ask about the installation disk and it’s very important to have it in case one day you need to reinstall your machine, as I recently had to.

So let’s say you got an old PowerPC Mac and you want to reinstall the OS X or upgrade to Leopard but your machine has CD drivers only and your Leopard disk is DVD (as I mentioned before some of the G3/G4 Macs won’t boot from USB).  This post shows you how to boot it from USB, but it’s not 100% guaranteed that it will work in all scenarios.   https://macpowerpc.com/2012/09/12/boot-your-powerpc-from-a-usb-for-mac-powerpc/   So you still have a shot at this, what you have to do is:

1 – Mac with no DVD driver

2 – Mac with a DVD driver

3 – Firewire cable (compatible with both machines)

4 – Install DVD disks.

First, insert your install DVD disk in your Mac with DVD drivers and reboot this Mac holding “ t “ for Firewire target mode. >  Next, connect this Mac to the Mac with no DVD driver and reboot it holding down “ alt “.

It might take a second for it to boot, but at this point something should be appearing on screen and you select the DVD as boot source.   Finally, click on the arrow button and the installation will start.

I got a few e-mails advising that some PowerPC users were having a hard time because some machines do not come with DVD drivers and it’s hard to find aTiger OS X CD.  Also, if you are looking to upgrade to Leopard, it would be even harder because I think Leopard is available on DVD only.  I hope you guys like this handy tip and leave some comments if it worked out for you, as it did me!

P.S.: Do not forget to back up all your data before trying anything!!!

Psi – 0.14 Panther / Tiger

A while ago we posted this content – https://macpowerpc.com/2012/10/12/connect-msnfacebook-account-to-ichat/ about how to connect MSN / Facebook Accounts to iChat and I received a few e-mail responses advising that some of you were having problems to find Psi 0.14 for 10.4 / 10.3.  Thanks to Marcio A. that shared this link with us.  You will be able to download the right version for your Tiger or Panther by clicking here: (http://psi.en.softonic.com/mac/download).

Thank you guys for sharing information!  All of Mac PowerPC really appreciates your feedback!

TuneLyrics for Mac PowerPC

That is a cool app that will work well for anyone with a well organized iTunes library!  Get this….it fetches the lyrics to the songs you are listening to, direct from the internet, as you listen!  I love this app…So far everything is working out great!

TuneLyrics is a perfect app that fetches lyrics on the fly, so now when you were enjoying your favorite music you can review the lyrics to see if you are singing the right words!

TuneLyrics 1.1.0 (Free) PowerPC friendly 10.2 / 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5 – That’s how Mac PowerPC likes it!!! http://waterdrop.tk/

xPad – Notepad/Scrapbook

When discussing browsers and word processors, it’s important to have more than one choice of application because it gives to you more freedom to work and different features to choose from.  PowerPC and Intel users can’t go wrong by installing LibreOffice.  It’s an entire Office Suite for FREE and it’s compatible with “almost” everything and I mean everything!   But if you are just looking for something more like a notepad that’s PowerPC friendly (of course), you can take a look at:

* xPad – 1.2.6 (Free) 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5 PowerPC (Panther and Tiger users your are so in there) – http://www.getxpad.com/ –  It’s very powerful notepad/scrapbook.  It has drag-and-drop support.  Unfortunately it’s a dead application, having become discontinued back in 2007 (not only for PowerPC) but this small app still rocks!  You can organize all your notes and work with an unlimited number of documents in only one window.  In all fairness, hat’s off to xPad!  This type of application should have been installed in all Apple Computers.  Color coded categories and document sorting will make your life much easier in case you decide to use it instead of stickies.

Give it a try…you won’t regret it!
