Jers Novel Writer – PowerPC

My Facebook friend Gregory will be very happy because I finally got some time to check  out the application that he mentioned on Mac PowerPC’s Facebook Page a long time ago, which I had bookmarked but never had enough time to get to.  Here you go!

* Jers Novel Writer 1.1.12 – (Demo $30.00) – http://jerssoftwarehut.com/jers-novel-writer/download-jers-novel-writer  – PowerPC friendly Panther / Tiger / Leopard – 10.3/10.4/10.5 – It’s a simple but not restricted writing application.  I’m very impressed with the quality of this word processor, as it has everything to keeping you writing and saving your ideas without messing things up.  It has a main window like any other word processor but the coolest feature is that it has a tab running along the side that allows you see all your other saved projects!  It also has a notes tab that allows you to post all your brainstormed ideas and subjects that keep you on track as you write.  In my opinion, this is great software that totally deserves to be installed on your machine.    Attention Writers:  Now it’s time to make your Mac buddy work a little bit harder.

Bento for Mac PowerPC

I believe most Mac users are very organized when it comes to their data, music, movies, office, set-up, etc, etc.  So to find an application that helps you to organize your database is very important.  For example, iTunes is great piece of work that puts all your music on track.  Anyways, this post is not about music, it’s about Bento for Mac.  This software is unbelievably easy to use as it organizes all of your important information in one place.  You can manage and sync your contacts, address book, iCal, iPhoto, To Do Items into your project as easy as drag and drop.  The latest version 4 is for Intel only, but after doing some research and installing old versions I found out that 3.0.6 is fully compatible with PowerPC 10.5.  Bento is not free, so before you guys purchase please contact FileMaker and make sure they are still providing the right license for your version.

Image Tricks on PowerPC (Photo/Image Editor)

A while ago I found this application and installed it on my PowerPC, and it worked great.  So I decided to save the link in my bookmarks but because I have so many bookmarked pages, it takes me forever to find things!  Many of you will know what I mean!  Today I am pleased to finally share a great Photo and Image Editing program for Mac PowerPC.

* Image Tricks – http://belightsoft.com/products/products.php – It’s a very powerful photo image editing program, easy to use and a very friendly interface that makes it even easier to test the effects that are divided in 3 tabs: Filters/Quartz/Generators.  You can drag and drop photos from iPhoto and save in formats like: PDF/TIFF/GIF/JPEG/PNG.  If you are looking for something easy with fast results, without spending money and excess time to learn the application.  Image Tricks will fit you like a glove, but also will enhance your photos/Images and make them appear more professional.  If you decide to go PRO you will have even more options/features (of course).

Image Tricks – 3.0.4 (FREE) – 10.5 / Leopard – http://belightsoft.com/imagetricks/update/update.php

Image Tricks – 2.4.2 (FREE) – 10.4 / Tiger – http://belightsoft.com/imagetricks/update/update.php

Reggie Asworth’s Applications (AppDelete/VidConvert)

This post is supposed to be just about AppDelete, but when browsing the web, I noted that the developer also has another conversion app that works on the PowerPC so this became a double post!

AppDelete is shareware but it definitely does the job! If you are looking for a very easy to use “drag and drop” uninstaller that also allows you to browse your application, screensaver, widgets, as you uninstall, then I think this is a great option for you.  It properly uninstalls the applications without leaving any files behind. (Trial version will give you 5 uses)

AppDelete 3.2.8 ($7.99) PowerPC – 10.5 Leopard – http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

AppDelete 2.2.4 ($5.00) PowerPC – 10.3/10.4 Panther/Tiger – http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

VidConvert also follows the same layout, it’s very easy to use and the best feature is the “drag and drop”.  It will convert any type of video into one of the many popular formats of today. (Supported output – iPhone, iPad, iPod, Retina, Apple TV, QuickTime, .mp4, .avi, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DVD (.vob), Windows Media, Flash, Matroska (.mkv), Theora (.ogg), .m4a, .mp3, .aiff, .wav, .wma, .ac3) (Trial version will convert only 3 minutes sample videos.

* VidConvert 1.4.1 ($7.99) – PowerPC 10.5 Leopard – http://www.reggieashworth.com/vidconvert

EggTimer Timer Utility / Reminder

EggTimer 3.1.5 – (Free) PowerPC 10.1 or Later.

This is a simple reminder/timer utility.  It’s fun…and let’s face it, if you’re anything like me…this is an invaluable app to have on your Mac!  With the help of this application, you’ll never be late again…you also can set reminders for a later time, set repeating reminders that will pop-up every “x” minutes, etc.

Enjoy this PowerPC friendly app.

EggTimer – http://www.cocoateria.com/software/eggtimer.html

xPad – Notepad/Scrapbook

When discussing browsers and word processors, it’s important to have more than one choice of application because it gives to you more freedom to work and different features to choose from.  PowerPC and Intel users can’t go wrong by installing LibreOffice.  It’s an entire Office Suite for FREE and it’s compatible with “almost” everything and I mean everything!   But if you are just looking for something more like a notepad that’s PowerPC friendly (of course), you can take a look at:

* xPad – 1.2.6 (Free) 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5 PowerPC (Panther and Tiger users your are so in there) – http://www.getxpad.com/ –  It’s very powerful notepad/scrapbook.  It has drag-and-drop support.  Unfortunately it’s a dead application, having become discontinued back in 2007 (not only for PowerPC) but this small app still rocks!  You can organize all your notes and work with an unlimited number of documents in only one window.  In all fairness, hat’s off to xPad!  This type of application should have been installed in all Apple Computers.  Color coded categories and document sorting will make your life much easier in case you decide to use it instead of stickies.

Give it a try…you won’t regret it!

ScreenFlow – Create Professional Screen Recordings on PowerPC

There are many reasons for why you should have a good application to screen recordings.  I think the most popular reason would be for podcasting as you’ll need an application more advanced than Quicktime screen recorder, that allows you to better edit your video.  For me, ScreenFlow was very competent and easily ran on my PowerPC.

*ScreenFlow 2.1.10 (Demo – $99.00) – PowerPC – Leopard 10.5 – http://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/overview.htm – It’s very dynamic, easy to use screen recording application.  The interface it’s very clean and a fter afew hours of playing with it, you probably will feel very comfortable with its features and effects.  This reminds me a little bit of GarageBand and it’s easy to add additional voice recorder, music, images and let your imagination flow.  The results will be a very professional video.  ScreenFlow also helps you in publishing your clips to web-sites/blogs or to Youtube/Vimeo.  If you have a PowerPC Mac with web-cam and a good microphone, and feel like you want to podcast or create tutorials, we encourage you to give ScreenFlow a try.  If the results are satisfactory, send your clips to us and we will share them on our Facebook/Twitter page.

P.S.: Before you purchase this application contact Telestream and make sure that they are still providing serial-numbers for the version 2.1.10.

HimmelBar (Menu Shortcut) for Mac PowerPC

If you are looking for a nice menu bar shortcut for your applications or utilities, I think your search is about to end!  Let me introduce to you HimmelBar.

*HimmelBar 3.0 (accepting donations) http://softbend.free.fr/himmelbar/download.html – 10.4 / 10.5 – PowerPC friendly.  It’s a very small icon on menu bar that gives you many options to easily access your folders, applications, etc.  You can also customize the folders and applications to better suit your needs.  After you start using it, you will likely question yourself why Apple didn’t think about this before because it’s a great feature and makes browsing your own computer much easier!  One of the features that I like is that you have the choice on what size your icons are displayed (big, small or not at all!)  Make sure you check the options Launch at login and go to Preferences as soon as you install, to do the setup the way you prefer.

Now comes good news for our feline relatives:

Jaguar users – 1.4.4

Panther users – 2.4.3

Tiger & Leopard – 3.0

Just one more point, this would be really great for Jaguar, Panther and Tiger because the folder dock application does not work the same way that it does on Leopard: you have to click and keeping holding until the list shows up and it’s not quite a shortcut…

Widgets for Mac PowerPC (ClassiCalculator / iBook)

Bring life to your dashboard with one of these widgets!  They are not “the big deal” but they’re cool little apps that will help keep your machine in the “now”;

*ClassiCalculator – PowerPC – ClassiCalculator it’s a widget that reminds us how applications looked a few years ago.  You can download here: http://cl.ly/2K3b2M15462U

*iBooks – PowerPC – This widget only allows you to access the iBook Store from your Dashboard.  I was wondering if we could actually read our iBooks from the Dashboard, which would be very helpful and cool.  Anyways you can download it here: http://cl.ly/1y3v3b3L280E

iPhone 5 for Mac PowerPC

Lately I’ve been getting so addicted to the Anime One Piece, that I crave just 20 minutes to watch an episode, in my “free” time, which there never seems to be enough of!  But with this week’s announcement of the new iPhone 5, I just wasn’t able to properly focus.  As Kylie said, I just cant get it out of my head!

I’ve already received a few e-mails from my readers telling me how disappointed they are because the won’t be able to sync the new iPhone with the PowerPC!  But I’ve got news for you…if you have a 10 year old Windows XP you can! LOL!

Each company has different policies and it seems that Windows has more support for the old OS than Apple does.  It’s sad and I think that soon Mac users will start using hackintosh more than the PC users do, it’s just getting to be “too much”.  Apple computers are expensive to buy and after few years (and I mean 2 year), are already obsolete and I’m not telling this just for PowerPC users.  Look at the Intel Dual Core, which can be updated to Mountain Lion but can not be used for Airplay!  Dual Core was replaced for i3/i5/i7 in 2010…ONLY 2 years ago!  Also, Snow Leopard it’s not compatible with iCloud and other applications that were released just for Lion/Mountain Lion.  So long story short, either you change your Mac every 1 or 2 years and spend around $1,200.00 for each purchase to keep yourself up to date, or you can keep your best machine as your main machine and buy some cheap (and very powerful) PC for half the price of a Mac and Hackintosh it to keep your devices up to date! (just thinking)

While completing this iPhone research I found this application that is PowerPC friendly and I hope for the release of an update that would allow us to sync the iPhone 5.  It’s not free, but for what it does, it’s totally worth it!

* PhoneView v2.8.4 – http://ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/ – PowerPC 10.5 (Leopard)

P.S.: They just announced that works great with iOS 6 – If you guys have the iPhone 5 and try this application please share the results with us.

Stay strong!

TenFourBird e-mail Client for Mac PowerPC

I was checking my old posts to review what ground we’ve been covering, and what directions we could take the site in.  I noticed that we never mentioned the great e-mail client TenFourBird.  I couldn’t believe it, because TenFourBird is one of the first applications that I open each morning.  So this post is to make sure that TenFourFox gets a special place here on Mac PowerPC.

* TenFourBird 10.6.6 – 10.4 Tiger / 10.5 Leopard (G3 / G4 / G5) PowerPC – ThunderBird dropped the support for PowerPC a while ago and here comes TenFourBird based on the latest version of Mozilla ThunderBird and TenFourFox.  It’s identical to ThunderBird: it’s fast, it’s light and it’s a very stable application to run.  Compatible with most IMAP/POP e-mail, the developer did a great job for the PowerPC community and I want to say Thank You.  :)

http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/tenfourbird/

P.S.:  * ThunderBird 3.1.20 is the version that will work on PowerPC (10.5 Leopard).

MultiTunes Multiples iTunes Library for Mac PowerPC

Browsing the web this morning, I came across a great application that it gives extra features to iTunes.  MultiTunes is a plug-in that allows you to have multiples iTunes libraries.  If you are an iTunes user, you know what I mean and you probably wonder how to have 2 iTunes installed in the same computer… Anyways if you feel like trying this app it’s shareware and works with iTunes 6 or later.

MultiTunes 1.6 (ShareWare – 15.99) 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard)  PowerPC – http://porkrind.org/multitunes/

Also there is a cheaper version that helps you to create multiple iTunes libraries and manage them.  This app supports iTunes 4 of later

*Libra 2.1.9 (ShareWare – 10.00) 10.2 (Jaguar), 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard)  PowerPC – http://www.sillybit.com/libra/  It’s very rare to see apps available for Jaguar.  Anyone that has partitions with Jaguar and Panther sitting on the side, it’s time to boot the feline one more time.

We from Mac PowerPC are always looking for the cheapest ways to do things and we want to let you know that there is one way to have multiple iTunes libraries in the same computer, but it won’t be as practical as Mac users like things to be.  The only thing you have to do is “hold Option key” and click on iTunes icon, a window will pop up asking if you want to create a new Library or choose one, that’s it!  It’s simple but you will have to get used to pressing the Option key each time you want to change your iTunes library.

Browser for Mac PowerPC (Re-revisited)

Yeah Yeah Yeah!, let’s re-revisit our favorite kind of apps, and if you thought that “re-revisited” is in regards to Metallica’s record Garage Days you are right.  In this post we will introduce you to some browsers that we did not check out before.  They’re very promising and will help you in your day-by-day browsing.  I’m really sorry that we don’t have Google Chrome available for the PowerPC platform and I don’t think we ever will.  So let’s appreciate projects like those listed here and others like TenFourFox, AuroraFox, SeaMonkey, etc.

*OmniWeb (5.11.2) Free – http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omniweb/overview/  (Tiger 10.4/Leopard 10.5) –  It’s a very interesting browser, which is light to run.  It’s very powerful, it’s fast and the most important thing is that they are still doing all the updates for either PowerPC :) and Intel.  In OmniWeb you can find features such as WorkSpaces, Visual Tabs, Ad Blocking, etc.  Installing this browser in your Mac will definitely be a benefit for you.  I personally really like the idea of being able to show and hide the tabs.  It’s pretty cool and very easy to browse.

*Leopard WebKit – (Free) – http://www.webkit.org/ / http://code.google.com/p/leopard-webkit/  (Leopard 10.5) –  This is their own statement “The goal of this project is to provide builds of current WebKit sources for Mac OS X 10.5 (PowerPC only).  The built product comes with no support and is provided only for testing purposes.”  Well now, it’s up to you if you want to use this very promising project !
