Q (KJU) – Qemu – CPU Emulator for Mac

Q (KJU) / Qemu:

I get quite a few e-mails asking about an emulator that will work on PowerPC.  This is something that I didn’t have to use so far but I did receive quite a few referrals from readers recommending an application called Q (KJU).

Run: Windows/Linux/Etc.

* Q (KJU) (Free) Emulator that is PowerPC friendly – http://www.kju-app.org

I found this link very helpful with step by step in how to instal it: http://maemovmware.garage.maemo.org/2nd_edition/installation_qemu.html#Installing_QEMU_on_Mac

Review CleanMyMac2

* CleanMyMac 2 – http://macpaw.com/cleanmymac

As we know, a clean computer can help your machine to work faster.  There are many applications that help you to maintain a clean, organized and healthy computer.  If you are one of those people who never turns off their machines (like me), or someone who drag and drops things to their desktop to deal with later, you’ll love CleanMyMac2.

Awhile back we mentioned CleanMyMac as being an awesome application to have installed and running on (10.4 and 10.5) and we still stand by this comment.  Recently we got a message from MacPaw requesting that we review CleanMyMac 2 compatible with (10.7 and 10.8) Only.  Unfortunately this means that CleanMyMac 2 is not compatible with PowerPC.  PowerPC users will have to download CleanMyMac Classic.

The main reason that I believe in this application is because it is one application with everything you need and not other way around.  It’s so easy to control and keep an eye on your Mac.  I Choose Full Scan and went to grab a coffee and a few minutes later my Mac was clean and had freed up a good amount of hard drive space for me to use on other programs or files.

Also, I have to point out some of the great features like Large & Old Files that will show folders and files you have on your system and you can also see how long ago you last opened them, and you can even sort them by size.  iPhoto Cleanup and Trash Cleanup is very handy…and can also help you to free up more of your valuable space!

One of my favorite features is that it’s now much easier to uninstall applications you don’t use anymore and you will find out just how long ago you last used them.  Be sure to check the Leftovers tab to make sure your unwanted app did not left anything behind!

Last but not least:  Eraser is a feature that will secure erased files or folders you don’t need/want anymore.

Before we finish this post let’s not forget about the interface.  Here is a huge plus for us:  if the Classic version was already very straight forward and simple to browse, then  version 2 is quite simply unbelievably well done.  They’ve managed to make it easier for us to be more organized.  In my opinion, CleanMyMac 2 is the best way to go minimalist when it comes to your computer!

Enjoy!

Tooble Dowload Youtube Videos

Summer time is a very difficult time to blog for the MacPowerPC team because of our day jobs.  It’s our busiest time of year and admittedly it’s difficult to find the time to release quality posts.  I wanted to let everyone know that even during our hiatus, we have still been searching and saving material for later updates, on a regular basis.  Now that fall is settling in, we have time to get back on track for our weekly updates…and have we got a LOT to catch up on!

* Tooble 2.8 – (Free) – PowerPC Tiger/Leopard.  It’s an easy way to quickly download videos from YouTube, convert them and import to iTunes to watch on your iPod or AppleTV.

I’m sorry guys for the misunderstanding, the right version that is compatible with PowerPC is Tooble 2.7.9.  Download here: http://cl.ly/RSL2

I would like to thank you to Bjornels for sharing the link with us.  The version that he found also works on PowerPC – http://tooble.en.softonic.com/mac

Facebook Desktop Application PowerPC

Facebook is one of the sole reasons people spend more time in front of a computer than ever before.  Personally, I blame timeline because for some reason you always want to check what your friends are doing/sharing.  I have a really small list of friends/family and I only add family and friends that I know “in real life”.  But anyways when it comes to PowerPC users we are very limited in finding Facebook applications compatible with our system.  Some time ago I posted about a menu tab and recently  found another option to share with you today:

* Facebook Desktop 1.9 (Shareware) – PowerPC Leopard 10.5.  It looks like a browser but its very dynamic and already has tabs for Facebook, Twitter, Chat and Lifestyle.  It’s really nice to browse and it ran very well on my iBook 1.07GHz.  The only problem is this is a Demo version and you can only run it for 5 minutes at a time.  The developer’s web site it’s offline so it’s hard to contact them to get a serial number.  Anyways I still think its a good application to share with you:

AvidemuX – Movie Editor (Free)

I wish I had more time to answer all the e-mails I get from my readers and to be able to do some research to help everybody find applications.  Unfortunately during the summer it’s difficult to find the time to spend hours in front of my computer.  Slowly as summer progresses into fall, you’ll see more from MacPowerPC!

A long time ago, a few people asked me about some applications to edit movies.  Obviously, my first answer is iMovie, I don’t do movie editing and if so it’s very basic!  In my travels, I’ve  come across a great program called Avidemux.

* Avidemux (2.5.3) – Free – PowerPC 10.2 (Jaguar here guys) or later.  It’s free open source and multi-platform software.  The interface might not be the best thing you have seen but the application is very straightforward. It supports video formats that iMovie does not and is very powerful for a simple cutting, filtering, and encoding. I might have to mention again that its FREE and this is what MacPowerPC is all about.

Image / Photo Editing PowerPC

In my opinion, its the most classic of the classics and it’s probably the most famous Image / Photo Editing application for Mac platform.  This application is supposed to come installed in every single Mac computer (in my opinion) but for some reason Apple didn’t think to add this application to their platform.  Microsoft is still delivering windows with Paint and most people need something that is a very friendly interface, easy to use and capable of atleast basic image / photo editing…and this is what GIMP is all about.

GIMP 2.8.4 (Free) – PowerPC friendly – Tiger 10.4.11 / Leopard 10.5.7+.  (They provide support for those Intel felines as well. http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/News/News.html

Quake X for Mac PowerPC

I don’t know about you guys but I remember during the later part of the 90’s I spent a good amount of time playing Quake.  It was so addictive that I actually hid it on my work computer because my boss wasn’t very computer savvy so it was easy to play.  Sometimes I would play for hours at at work if I didn’t have pressing tasks, and often it took over my entire lunch break.  I know it’s awful but I don’t regret any of this because it was part of my recollection of the late 90s!  This is the successor to Doom and the first person shooter was a hit and it changed the way people used to play games.

For the more information about Quake you can check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_(video_game)

#Twitter Clients for PowerPC pt 1+1

All Mac PowerPC users are well aware that when it comes to Social Networking our applications are limited.  It’s hard to find something that might work well for Mac OS X Tiger.  In fact it’s virtually possible to find options for  the Mac OS X Leopard.  I actually still prefer use a good old fashioned Browser, when it comes to searching for these types of media.  But this post doesn’t end here, previously we mentioned some applications for Twitter and we got really great feedback from our readers and I wanted to share some  more options with you here.  the list starts with:

App Store/iTunes Card $10,000 Why Not + New Blogs

I understand that a few of you won’t like the idea that the PowerPC is not allowed on Apple’s App Store but just imagine an App Store Card with a value of U$10,000. Did you start salivating? I would buy tons of music and apps for my iPhone and as long as any PowerPC user could use this card on the iTunes Store, would make me happy. I would be able to download all the new records that I want to listen to and because it was free money, I’d try out new bands I’d never heard of before! So I don’t want to get too excited, so I will stop here. The good news is that PowerPC users still have a shot at this, even without an App Store on our machines… you go to this link, fill out the form and cross your fingers: http://www.apple.com/ca/itunes/50-billion-app-countdown/entry-form/

Good luck…I understand that they are about to hit 50 billion downloads worldwide!

Citrix – ShareFile

When we stop to think about how the internet has changed in last ten years it’s almost unbelievable.  When the internet first started, most people didn’t know how to handle it and to get to the position that we are today is just awesome.  Most PowerPC users are old enough to remember how things were in the early 1990s and now twenty years later we see that the most common thing is to share information and sync devices on the cloud..,it’s just a common fact of computer life now!  A while ago, I was very impressed because Google released a new operating system entitled Google Chromium, which ran on the web, which I thought would change everything, especially the way we purchase computers.  The cloud services were also something which improved and brought everything to another level in a short time span.  Citrix ShareFile is thinking ahead and decide to hone in and focus on the business market.

Citrix ShareFile – It’s easy to use, Professional and Secure.  It’s the easiest way to share large business files with your choice of one person or a hundred.  Just click to send a file link on a navigation bar, enter an e-mail address and upload your file.  It uploads files up to 10GB in size. Desktop tools, mobile apps or just launch your browser to manage your account.

Citrix also offers Secure Virtual Data Room.
