2014 …and Justice for us.

This is my first post after a long vacation!  I really tried to keep in touch and do some research but for so many reasons I couldn’t get back on track and actually I was most of the time “off line”.

We are on our way through 2014 and I’m glad to see you’re all still using PowerPC!  I was pleasantly surprised to see that people have started collecting the PowerPCs…I saw that the G3s have gone straight to the “rare list” and noted an iBook clamshell on eBay costing over $200.  The message is simple:  if you’re lucky enough to have one, then hold on to it because you might get way more in a few years!

A while ago I received an e-mail from Zen (PowerPC Liberation: http://powerpcliberation.blogspot.com) telling me that a copycat was mirroring his blog.  I was very surprised that we get to this point where people would steal material for unknown reasons, because if this person is looking to make money with ads, frankly PowerPC material is not the most popular technology online!  Also he copied everything and I mean EVERYTHING.  So please, as we are becoming a very united and close group if you guys see something suspicious let’s give a heads up to each other and share information.  We PowerPC users know where to get news/information and if there is a new blog with a suspicious material let’s report it.

I’m glad to know that Zen found out and reported to Google and they removed the copycat blog.

I have new recommended blogs/sites that I’ve stumbled across, and highly recommend that you all take note of what they’re posting.

* My Abandonware – http://www.myabandonware.com If you are looking for an old game here is place to start.  Games from 1980 to 2002.

* FreeSMUG – http://www.freesmug.org/start If you’re looking for Open Source software that is still available to your Mac PowerPC, then here is place to stop by and take a look around.  Graphic section is really good!

* MacOS9Lives – http://www.macos9lives.com This blog will definitely will bring you back to the roots. I can see you taking your G3/G4 machine out of the closet and powering it back on. Mac OS 9 Lives (just saying).

  1. Glad to see you’re back! I was getting a little worried that maybe you had abandoned us (whew).

It’s true that the G3 and G4 machines are starting to get noticed on the collector’s market. They are being sought after like the original Macintosh. I use to be able to find them for $10-20 and sometimes even free but have noticed prices on ebay going up to the hundreds (on certain models) ever since Steve Jobs passed away. It may be that a lot of us sort of feel the nostalgia from when he was around by having these older macs on our desks… I don’t think I will ever sell any from my collection.

    • Hi Red your are right, my PowerBookG3 stays on the table and I do all my texting on it. :D Nostalgia is why we still using these great machines in 2014. People who get it know what I’m talking about it.

  2. Hi,
First off all what a great site, i have been using windows for years unhappily and discovered linux about 5 year ago and enjoyed learning the command line but i have always admired Mac OS from a distance of not being able to afford a mac, i decided to take the plunge for a Powermac G5 last month, and i am loving it, it looks great and it performs so good on just 1.5 Gb of RAM, i am hoping by maxing it out on RAM it will be even faster and i have a better graphics card on the way, the way i see it it’s not all about what is the most up to date but i feel you get more satisfaction from getting a computer that is more personal and in a niche place and getting the most out of them.
I have another PPC G4 Mac Mini hopefully soon to run Morph OS as my heart was always with Amiga back in the day. The stuff that i can do on this Powermac G5 is amazing for the age of the computer.
Keep up the good work on your Blog as it keeps me inspired to use PPC Architecture.
