SeaMonkey (Browser) for Mac PowerPC

I’ve got some good news for your PowerPC machine!  Recently (08/28/12) we got a new update for SeaMonkey that is very “very” helpful for all PowerPC users because it keeps our Macs up to date!  Thumbs up for SeaMonkey and I hope to see this project advancing to further support the PowerPC world!  Show them some love guys, they’re basically all we have left!

CleanApp for Mac PowerPC

Today I have insane writers block.  It took me 90 minutes to start this line… I even thought that maybe I shouldn’t post anything today.  Everything took my attention, like the dishes, the laundry even the bills but my priority is this blog today!  So talking about cleaning, and organizing let’s not forget about a great application called CleanApp.  It’s a really good app that keeps your Mac clean when you uninstall any application because it deinstalls all the files like logfiles, plists and cashe cluttering folders.  But the best feature that I’m most impressed with is the “Secure and Archive”.   This feature basically tests uninstall and archives all your data in case you have a second thought or anything bad happens after you uninstalled it, it’s super easy to bring back and all your preserved data.

DivX 6 Converter/Encode for Mac PowerPC

Right now for Intel Mac can download DivX8 but PowerPC Macs can still install DivX6.  It’s good software to have installed because it plays all DivX videos and MKV formats.  You can convert files ending in one of the following extensions: .mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .avi and divx, by just dragging and dropping!    One nice feature of DivX is the conversion profile.  The profiles are predefined templates where you choose the dimensions you want, select the video bitrate and other conversion settings that are appropriate for various playback devices.  There are 5 standard profiles, handheld, portable, home theater, high def and custom.

Open Sonic (the Hedgehog) for Mac PowerPC

Have I got a classic game for you!  Open Sonic is an open source game based on the Nintendo Sega classic, Sonic the Hedgehog.  With this game you can control 3 characters simultaneously and there is a reason behind this style of game and it’s all about strategy!  Don’t waste your free time, download right now and enjoy it!  It’s also available for Linux and some other popular OS.

P.S.: Thank you guys for the comments.

Twunes (Tweet your #nowlistining iTunes music) for Mac PowerPC

Sometimes I get very excited to share things that we found on the internet with my readers.  Today’s featured app is called Twunes, which was supposed to be for Intel only.  Needless to say, I like a challenge and one more I got the horrible message explaining to me that the application does not support my OS X.  So anyways, turns out that as long you have 10.5.8 you are good to tweet your favorite music using PowerPC.  Enjoy guys!

* Twunes 2.2.1 – 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – It was kind of hard to find this version so I uploaded it for you guys to download right here: http://cl.ly/0t0A1u3b190O

This application was discontinued in march/2012 for Intel.

TeamViewer for Mac PowerPC

Want to Stream your entire computer?

I will get straight to the point because I’m about to watch Whoopi Goldberg in concert in about 2 hours and I need to post something to catch up a little bit.  I want to introduce all of you to a PowerPC friendly application called TeamViewer.  This is a really cool application and works for both Mac and PC, and what it does is establish remote connections with other Macs or PCs.  You just need to create an ID + Password (of course) and you can access your machine from any other machine.  All the contents and everything will be mirrored/streamed so you have total access and you are not limited by any internet sharing…and to be clear:  This works from anywhere in the world!  TeamViewer is also great for those that have sisters that are not very computer savvy and need help  ALL THE TIME!   So once you install the program, you can see what is happening and fix it from anywhere in the world!

Pixelmator (Image Editor) for Mac PowerPC

Pixelmator (1.5.1) for Mac PowerPC

Alright, this is not the latest version of Pixelmator but we need to be happy with what we can get.  Pixelmator is a great image editor with great features to work with which allows you to customize pictures or create Images.  It’s not free but you can download a demo version and have a taste what it’s like to work with this powerful image editor.  This app would be perfect if we could update it to the latest versiont, but they say “PowerPC can not handle it!”  Sorry to tell them that the PowerMac G5 is built like a horse!  If you are tired of working with Gimp and want to challenge yourself to try something new, then Pixelmator is the software to start with.

*Pixelmator (1.5.1) PowerPC Leopard 10.5 – http://www.pixelmator.com/  or you can download the PowerPC version here:  http://www.pixelmator.com/blog/2010/02/11/pixelmator-1-5-1-is-now-available/

* If you guys are having any problem you can download 1.4 and then update to 1.5.1 – http://download.cnet.com/Pixelmator/3000-2192_4-11006491.html

P.S.:  Before you purchase this application, please send an e-mail to Pixelmator to make sure they still providing the right license for this old version.  Thank You!

Torrent Clients for Mac PowerPC

At one time we mentioned some options for Torrent clients for PowerPC and I think a lot of people use torrents to download “things” because it’s one of the most accessible posts on our blog and you can check it out here: https://macpowerpc.com/2011/06/01/client-bit-torrent-for-powerpc/.  In this post you will find reviews on applications like: Transmission – 2.42, Vuze – 4.7.1.2 (seems to be compatible with 10.3 Panther), Bits on Wheels, Frostwire 5.3.6 and Tomato Torrent.  But we’ve found some more options and present you with 3 more options that will make your PowerPC able to download files from the most popular web-sites like: PirateBay, IsoHunt, etc.

* Tribles 5.9.27 (Free) 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – http://www.tribler.org/trac – Is a very different BitTorrent client and will work just fine.  It’s has fast content search, wiki-style channels, video-on-demand support, no ads, etc.  This application actually makes us think about a second post of Torrent clients and I hope you guys like it.

* BitTorrent 7.3.4 (Free) 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – http://www.bittorrent.com/ – It’s another BitTorrent client that is very PowerPC friendly.  Previously, I didn’t mention this application because we were looking for options specifically for Tiger.  You can not go wrong with this very powerful application.

* uTorrent 1.6.4 (Free) 10.5 Leopard/PowerPC – http://mac.utorrent.com/ – Well this application is probably one of the most popular apps for Torrent downloads and there is a reason for that fame!  uTorrent is a very powerful Torrent client and it’s light too!  It has a clean interface and features like; search for torrents or browse content directly from your software interface, download torrents and manage your files in the torrent manage.  I like that it has buttons for playing and streaming right where you can see them!

P.S.: uTorrent 1.6.5 – http://www.oldapps.com/mac/utorrent.php?app=5B8E3CF6A72E46E65F594DC38C8948EF

* Folx 2.0.1029 (Free or Pro – 19.95) 10.4 Tiger /10.5 Leopard/ PowerPC – http://mac.eltima.com/download-manager.html – This application I posted as a bonus because is a download manager that also download torrents and works with Tiger so why not?!

These latest additions are very powerful Torrent clients for the PowerPC.  I hope you guys like them and if you find some other applications that we’ve missed,  please share with us and we will review and post them here as soon as possible.  Also, if you have time please click in one of the advertisements on our page or make some donations to help to keep this blog up and running.  We run this blog for our own interests, and all donations will be very much appreciated, and help cover our costs.  We appreciate anything you can do to help!!

iPodBackUp for Mac PowerPC

iPodBackup is fully compatible with 10.3 (Panther) or later and that is more than enough reason to share this great Free application.  The name says it all!  This fantastic app  backs up your iPod and allows you to customize a list of items to be excluded by dragging and dropping. If you still have your iPod playing your favorite tunes, let’s back up.

ICQ for MacPowerPC UH-OH

Who remembers the ORIGINAL (if I’m not wrong) Instant Messenger ICQ?  Yeah, those days are way gone but since 2010, ICQ was purchased for the Mail.ru Group and they are trying to bring ICQ back for popular use.  I’m not sure if this blast from the past will gain back the popularity it had back in 1996, but it’s worth a try!  (The name ICQ is a homophone for the phrase “I seek you”. This is an adaptation of the Morse code callout “CQ“, which means “calling any station”. From Wikipedia).

Now there are ICQ apps for most of mobile phones and OSs, but if you want to install it in your PowerPC machine, you can look for the ICQ 3.4.23 (the legacy version) and start searching for friends and invite others to join this chat client (that I think will be around for awhile!)

I see that MSN is trying everything to keep connecting people but Facebook took over everything!  Now time will only tell where this will end up and the question is “Who and what will be the next big thing on the internet?”

* ICQ – 3.4.23 (Free) PowerPC – http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/4142/icq

Black Lab for Mac PowerPC

Damp / Lamp & Frank Synth

Just when most developers are trying to get away from the “old” OS, we got contacted by Mauro from Black Lab offering Mac PowerPC some cool apps for us to test and the results are very satisfactory.  It’s one of those apps that you think you don’t need until you start using it…after which, it just feels like a new feature added to your OS!  So without further adieu:  Here is the list:

* Damp / Lamp – It’s a great app that helps you to show and hide all your hidden files, it’s simple but very convenient to use on a daily basis.  The most important thing is the fact that it’s easy to access and you can hide and protect important folders, especially if you have kids at home…and files you don’t want them to see or use.

* Frank Synth – This is another great app with 2 buttons: Synth and “Prueba de Sonido” which essentially means Soundcheck.  Soundcheck will check your sound system and Synth, and programs such as “Dictation & Speech” Text to Speech on Mountain Lion.  This electronic voice system will speak every word you type, which can be used for hundreds of things.  A few example that comes to my mind right now are:  it could be used to give captions to photos in video or could be used for listening to what you are writing so you can have an idea of how it sounds.   You could also make yourself an audio book, or just make the computer say dirty things aloud!  Hahaha  the possibilities are endless!

I also want to mention that Black Lab is developing various things for Mac and are open to develop applications for all your needs, in case you guys are looking for something specific contact Mauro.  You can drop him a line at eldritch[at]blacklab.com.ar and he will be more than happy to help you!  Thanks Mauro!

Customize Your Mac Mug for Mac PowerPC

I know this post has nothing to do with applications or set up but I found some info on the internet and I really think it’s a cool idea that I wanted to share with my readers.

This could be a perfect weekend project with the family, just to get together, or could also be a very nice and personal gift for someone you like!

On this blog we always look for the cheap/cheapest way to do a task and I admit that sometimes the word cheap sounds pejorative but honestly we need to get over it.  Who doesn’t like a deal???

All you need is a ceramic mug (I found my on dollar store for $1.25) and a Sharpie pen (or other permanent marker).

  • Now you have to channel your inner artist and draw something on the mug.  I tried a few of the apple software logos and ended up using the “Finder” logo.  Once you’re satisfied with the drawing, you put your mug in the oven at 350º for 30 minutes.

And after 30 minutes you remove the mug and let it rest until it gets cold and is ready for you to use for your beverage of choice.

  • Warning:  It won’t last forever.  We recommend hand wash only.  Do not put in the dishwasher.

Now it’s time for all of you to take this project and make it PowerPC friendly!  Send me any photos of your customized mugs and we will try to make an art galley of those inspired by mac!

SeaMonkey for Mac PowerPC

A short time ago I mentioned this great browser called SeaMonkey on my second Mac PowerPC post, and after that we started paying more attention to browsers like TenFourFox and Aurora because it seemed more promising and up to date.  But recently I got an e-mail that looked like it was from SeaMonkey, advising I could get new updates from July 27th!  Turns out that they released the 2.11 version advising, “it’s building on the same Mozilla platform as the newest Firefox release, it delivers the latest developments in web technologies such as HTML5, hardware acceleration and improved JavaScript speed”.

If you got a little bit excited by this, you can download the 2.12 Beta 2 as they encourage testers and will be more than happy for you to discuss and report problems you may encounter, as they work to improve their product.

PowerMail for Mac PowerPC

This software probably has a different kind of user in mind.  I don’t think “home users” would pay $70 for an e-mail client, but perhaps business users or someone that has to deal with thousands of e-mails everyday should take a look at this application.

One of the most important things to know about PowerMail is that it’s a heavy duty application and it will help you to manage your e-mail very fast/easy.  For more information visit: http://ctmdev.com
